$50 Standard Membership (Fully Tax-Deductible) Donate $50 to get a PSNY Lapel Pin, to receive an invitation to PSNY's annual spring gala, to gain access to the VIP parlor in the Commanding Officer's Quarters at The New York City Poetry Festival, and to get 20% off General Admission tickets to The Poetry Brothel.

$100 Gold Membership (Tax Deductible Amount: $90) Donate $100 to receive all the benefits of an Standard Membership, plus a PSNY notebook and tote bag. 

$250 Poetry Brothel Membership (Tax-Deductible Portion: $225) Donate $250 to receive all the benefits of a Gold Membership, plus free admission to any Poetry Brothel event as well as 50% off admission for your guests.

Below is a list of our available internships. All internships are unpaid, but they can be done for college credit. To be considered as a volunteer or intern for The Poetry Society of New York, please fill out the form below explaining your interest, background, and availability.  


Programs & Events Intern

The Poetry Society of New York is seeking an intern who will assist with the production of The Poetry Brothel, The New York City Poetry Festival, and other special events. The Programs & Events Intern will be responsible for assisting with set-up and breakdown of events; selling merchandise and other on-site duties during events; writing, editing, designing and distributing press releases, media kits, flyers, posters, and newsletters; pitching and communicating with venues, performers, audience, and supporters, and developing event ideas and seeing them through to their execution.

Qualifications

  • Excellent interpersonal skills; calm under pressure
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Ability to work remotely & during nonstandard business hours
  • Strong artistic aesthetic & attention to detail
  • Demonstrated familiarity with and enthusiasm for poetry and performance
  • Experience using Eventbrite, Square Point of Sale system, Squarespace, and MailChimp
  • Basic graphic design skills

Social Media Intern

The Poetry Society of New York is seeking an intern who will assist with social media marketing. Social Media intern will be responsible for developing and executing a creative and comprehensive social media strategy across multiple platforms, creating significant original content to publish across digital and print media, strategically framing a message to engage diverse audiences, corresponding with followers about questions, concerns and opportunities, providing event support, including creating live content.

  • Demonstrated familiarity with and enthusiasm for poetry and performance art
  • Experience using Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and Snapchat

Typewriter Project Intern

The Poetry Society of New York is seeking an intern who will assist with The Typewriter Project. The Typewriter Project Intern will be responsible for being on-site manager of the installation, explaining the project to passersby, teaching them to use the typewriter, editing and uploading text from iCloud Notes to a Squarespace blog daily, creating photos, text, and live content and for Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and Snapchat, and assisting with installation and de-installation of the project.

  • Strong organization skills & attention to detail
  • Demonstrated familiarity with and enthusiasm for poetry and literature
  • Experience using Squarespace, iCloud, Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and Snapchat

  • Basic graphic design skills

The Poetry Society of New York is seeking an intern who will assist with fundraising and development for the society and its projects. The Development Intern will be responsible for researching grants, private donors, sponsors, and other potential funding sources; maintaining a calendar of grants and other funding opportunities; writing letters of inquiry and assembling grant applications and sponsorship proposals and submitting them; attending fundraising events and making connections, and following up with and maintaining relationships with grantmakers, sponsors, and other donors.
