$50 Individual ($30 Students) Donate $50 to to become an Individual Member of The Poetry Society of New York. As an Individual Member, you will gain access to the VIP Area at The New York City Poetry Festival, receive 50% off General Admission tickets to PSNY's annual Spring Gala, and get 20% off General Admission tickets to The Poetry Brothel. You will also join our members mailing list and receive members-only invitations, perks, discounts, and gifts throughout the year. Below is a list of our available internships. All internships are unpaid, but they can be done for college credit. To be considered as a intern for The Poetry Society of New York, please fill out the form below explaining your interest, background, and availability. If you are simply interested in volunteering, that's okay too! 


Event Production Internship

The Poetry Society of New York is seeking an intern who will assist with the production of our programs & events. Event Production Interns’ duties may include:

  • Assisting with set-up and breakdown of events

  • Stage managing, taking video, selling merchandise and other on-site duties during events & rehearsals

  • Writing, editing, designing, and printing runs of show, stage plots, venue layouts, materials lists, and other production documents

  • Facilitating communication between with event casts, event staff, venues, sponsors, clients & other professional contacts to streamline production process

  • Participating in the development of new production ideas and seeing them through to their execution

  • Coordinating with the Communications & PR Interns as well as the Social Media & Digital Marketing interns to execute production elements related to promotional efforts

  • Assisting the Communications & PR Interns as well as Social Media & Digital Marketing Interns with their duties, as needed.

Qualifications

  • Excellent interpersonal skills; outgoing, confident, & calm under pressure

  • Hands-on mentality; self-motivated, intuitive, & independent worker

  • Strong artistic aesthetic & attention to detail

  • Ability to work remotely & during nonstandard business hours

  • Demonstrated familiarity with and enthusiasm for poetry, literature, theater, and performance art

  • Experience using Eventbrite & Square Point of Sale system.


Communications & PR Internship

The Poetry Society of New York is seeking an intern who will assist with Communications & PR efforts for our company, events, and programs. Communications & PR Interns’ duties may include:

  • Writing, editing, designing, & distributing press releases, flyers, posters, decks & other promotional materials

  • Creating & updating content & settings for each program or event on Eventbrite, Squarespace, and Facebook

  • Researching, identifying, pitching & maintaining relationships with journalists, bloggers, influencers, venues, potential sponsors & partners, potential clients & other professional contacts

  • Presenting sponsorship & client pitches and proposals

  • Attending industry events and making connections

  • Coordinating with the Event Production Interns & the Social Media & Digital Marketing Interns to execute communications & PR strategies

  • Assisting the Event Production Interns & the Social Media & Digital Marketing Interns with their duties, as needed.

Qualifications

  • Experience using Canva or other graphic design software

  • Excellent communication skills: written, verbal, and visual

  • Passionate about using Instagram, Facebook, Twitter, Mailchimp, Squarespace to communicate a strong message and identity and to share it with a like-minded audience

  • Interest in analytics; passion for setting & meeting follower and engagement goals

  • A sharp wit & artistic aesthetic

  • Self-motivated & independent worker

The Poetry Society of New York is seeking an intern who will assist with Social Media & Digital Marketing efforts for our company, events, and programs. Social Media & Digital Marketing Interns’ duties may include:

  • Assisting with the development and execution of a creative and comprehensive Social Media & Digital Marketing strategy across multiple brands, audiences, and platforms

  • Using Instagram, Facebook, Twitter, Mailchimp, Eventbrite, Squarespace, & Google Ads to strategically frame campaigns & messages to target & engage diverse audiences

  • Creating & publishing original written and visual content daily to communicate brand identity & engage followers

  • Tracking each platform's analytics, creating weekly reports, and setting & meeting numeric goals

  • Corresponding with followers & subscribers about questions, concerns and opportunities

  • Creating live, engaging social media content at our events & rehearsals

Qualifications

  • Passionate about using Instagram, Facebook, Twitter, Mailchimp, &/or Squarespace to communicate a strong message, aesthetic, and identity and to share it with diverse audiences

Social Media & Digital Marketing Internship


Non-Profit Development Intern

The Poetry Society of New York is seeking interns to assist with fundraising, sales, and business development for the society and its projects. Development Interns’ responsibilities may include:

  • Researching & identifying potential business opportunities & funding sources including grant-makers, donors, clients, sponsors, potential members, and other potential funding sources

  • Developing & maintaining relationships with grant-makers, members, donors, sponsors, clients, and other funders

  • Maintaining a calendar of grant deadlines & our membership database

  • Writing letters of inquiry & assembling grant applications

  • Assisting with the development of our members program & fulfilling membership rewards

  • Assisting with the coordination and execution of our Spring Gala

  • Attending fundraising & networking events and making connections

  • Writing, designing, and presenting sponsorship & client pitches and proposals

Qualifications

  • Excellent interpersonal skills; outgoing, charming, and persuasive

  • Ambitious, self-motivated & independent

  • Excellent communication skills; both written and verbal

  • Ability to work remotely & during nonstandard business hours

  • Strong organization skills & attention to detail
